Multi-Sports and Wellbeing Festival 2022

Ensure your students enjoy 2022’s summer of Sport!  Ahead of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, this is a fantastic and unique opportunity to bring young people together to try new sports and enhance their experience of sports competition. 

We believe that sport is for all and has a vital role to play in supporting the well-being and resilience of young people. So, join Sport Experiences & Youth Sports Trust at our new, unique 2-day residential sport festival created specifically for Year 7 & 8 students of all abilities.

This event has been designed and developed in partnership with YST, drawing on the significant experience they have of working with UK schools; both with educators and students. Their trained team will be delivering the sports and well-being sessions, so you are guaranteed a high-quality festival, that will fully support your educational and development objectives. Most importantly, your students will have fun and feel energised mentally and physically.  

From the moment you arrive you will be supported throughout the festival by our experienced events team, who will co-ordinate a smooth and organised transition from sessions, organise refreshments throughout, answer any questions you have across the 2 days, and generally keep you updated with where you need to be and when, so that you can enjoy watching your students experiences.  

The Festival

Across the 2 days your students will have the opportunity to participate in:

  • 2 wellbeing sessions, which will give young people really practical ideas to help them with their own wellbeing. The Youth Sport Trust Active in Mind programme uses psychosocial tools, stress-busting strategies, peer mentoring and physical activity to support young people experiencing mental wellbeing issues.   • 4 sporting sessions, where students will have a chance both to try something new as well as enjoying more established sports. These sessions will be suitable for all abilities with time to find out and play the sport, before experiencing competition. Sessions confirmed will include boxing, netball and judo with more sports to follow. Find out more about the sporting sessions here 

The programme will be flexible for you to personalise with sessions being booked for groups of 10 students (plus one teacher) and will be released 3 months ahead of the event.  Session bookings will be on a first come first served basis and popular sessions may be able to be repeated.

Location

The Sport Festival will be held at the prestigious Warwick Independent Schools Foundation at their 50 acre campus. Having been an official team base for the 2015 Rugby World Cup, the Foundation has an excellent range of modern, well maintained indoor and outdoor facilities.

Your overnight stay will be at nearby hotels just a short drive from the Foundation.

Who Can Take Part?

The Festival is aimed at students aged 11 – 13 and for all abilities. Sessions will be tailored to all levels so that all students will enjoy and feel comfortable trying new sports and challenges.

01 Sample Itineraries

Day 1

Morning

Depart school to arrive for 11.00. A Welcome Ceremony will take place followed by lunch.

Afternoon

After lunch you'll take part in 3 sessions pre-chosen by yourselves from our sports and wellbeing options, each lasting 90 minutes. You will have breaks and refreshments throughout.

Evening

Your evening meal will be at 18.00 followed by your optional evening activities before transferring to your local accommodation for the night.

Day 2

Morning

After breakfast at your accommodation your coach will transfer you to the festival site for your second day of activities. Starting at 9.00 you will have 2 more sport or wellbeing sessions across the morning. Lunch will be provided.

Afternoon

This afternoon you will take part in your final session. At 3.00 all participants will come together to celebrate their participation, achievements and to say farewell at the Celebration Ceremony. Following the ceremony you will depart for your journey home.

02 Wellbeing Sessions

Wellbeing Session information

All our Wellbeing Sessions will be delivered by Youth Sport Trust’s team of Athlete Mentors.  These interactive workshops will focus on your students’ wellbeing and empowering them to reach their potential.  All workshops will be 90mins long and will include athletes sharing their own personal sporting journey. 

YST Athlete Mentors will include;

  • Jenna Downing – Inline Skating World Champion
  • Tom Davis – British and Commonwealth Judo Champion
  • Montell Douglas – Commonwealth 100m Champion
  • David Hill – Paralympian and World Bronze medallist Triathlete

Schools are asked to choose 1 session from each section when they book.

Section A

Session 1: ‘Active in Mind’

Active in Mind uses psychosocial tools, stress-busting strategies, peer mentoring and physical activity to support young people experiencing mental wellbeing issues. This session will give students helpful tools to look after their own wellbeing and the wellbeing of their peers.

Session 2: ‘Get Exam Fit’

Our Athlete Mentor will help your students build their confidence, manage their physical and emotional wellbeing and achieve their potential in school exams.

Section B

Session 3: ‘Game on!’

Empowering young people to discover and demonstrate their value by raising their aspirations and breaking barriers.  Through the very personal sporting journey of one of our athletes.

Session 4: ‘Six keys to success’

Within this session our athletes will use their own sporting journey to explore the ‘six keys to success’ that can be used by young people in everyday life to focus, prepare and be their very best.

 

These wellbeing sessions have been designed to empower your young people to help them to manage their own emotional, physical and social wellbeing, through the power of sport.

03 Sporting Sessions

Your students will have a chance both to try something new as well as enjoying more established sports. The sessions are delivered by coaches from the National Governing Body of Sport and will be suitable for all abilities,  with time to find out about and play the sport, before experiencing competition. 

Boxing For Beginners 

The session with England Boxing will include coaching from one of our England coaches covering basic movements and actions followed by non-contact challenges and games.

Learning & key outcomes: A basic understanding of stance, guard and basic attacking and defensive techniques.

Ball Skills With England Netball & Fun Match Play

This coaching session with England Netball coaches which will cover basic ball handling and passing skills. Participants will then put their new skills into practise in some fun match play. Never played before? Don't worry, the coaches will cover off all the positions and rules.

Learning & key outcomes: For all participants to feel comfortable handling a netball and able to use effective passing in a game situation

Get To Grips With Judo

Delivered with the help of British Judo, this session will include a judo demonstration, an opportunity to experience the sport and a fun-based competition.

Learning & key outcomes: The participants will get an understanding of a martial art, a hands-on experience of a close contact combat sport and an introduction to the competitive element of judo.
